Hello, it's me, Leon Zong! I've just finished getting my Bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester. Now I'm working at UPenn as a research assistant with Sara Mathieson. Soon, I'd like to begin a PhD program.
I'm mainly interested in doing machine learning in the life sciences. I'm not sure whether that means doing data science, bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, systems biology, computer science, or something else I haven't heard of yet, but I am sure I'll figure it out someday.
My current work is to try and use machine learning for population genetics. Mainly, this involves trying to predict things like natural selection and population size using genetic data from lots of people. I think this field is quite cool, and there are lots of really interesting problems (and a whole lot of corresponding genetic data!).
I'm also finishing some linguistics research with the FACTS.lab on a project involving the isiZulu language. My role has been mostly developing language and statistical models to assist in data collection and analysis. I'm learning about language models but am more interested in the Bayesian modeling of language that we are doing.
I had also written some papers for classes, and have some preprints that will hopefully be out soon. I've had a few internships, and I also have some random projects. In the future, I will finish them, and start more.
I also like to make music! I play the violin and saxophone. I like jazz. Here are some videos. I'd like to compose music too, but I'm not that creative.
I'm not much of a web designer, but I liked Tom 7's website so I shamelessy copied his design. He also makes really cool stuff. Check him out! The moons on the top of this page are from the Kingdom of Loathing. It has a great artstyle, and it's very funny. Check it out!
